emanate gives volume to light through a study in precisely manifesting ideal geometric forms parametrically derived from rhino+grasshopper script. running through many iterations of offests, scales, and lofts ultimately resulted in this form; optimized to minimize waste by eliminating the necessity for support material during the 3D printing process. emanate is inspired by the complex visual geometry associated with visions derived from serotonergic compounds; and serves as a short-cut to these kinds of experiences without having to risk one’s sanity and sovereignty.
emanate is the logical conclusion of interstace - a chamfered dodecahedron assembled in full, with light gently emanating from its core out through its seams. each cell is individually 3D printed and attached to its neighbor with 1/4” stainless steel bolts, meaning this sculpture can be disassembled and reassembled for transport. one panel of six cells is attached to the remaining thirty-six panels via rare earth magnets, for access to the interior for changing the light bulb and replacing cells as needed.
emanate is a mirror for our selves; characterized by internality and externality, an emergent whole composed of many smaller parts; each node a relationship/connection with another self; this fragmentary composite illuminated by a unified ‘inner life’ that cannot help but shed light on our many facets and seep out most brightly through our deepest grooves.
